"Upon descending the stairs you could be forgiven for thinking you had arrived at Aladdin’s den. A bazaar of ethnic wares awaits, derived from near and far. Be distracted by ancient African and Egyptian artifacts, statues, carvings, and pearl shell lampshades or books, jewelry, clothing and footwear. Subtle incense pervades the air with and Eastern spice. Spend hours loosing your sanity and repair to part with cash amongst the vast selection of knick-knacks, from Bolivian alpaca or llama blend berets to Peruvian jewels and Polish amber, then feel the transcendental rhythm of exotic musical instruments."

"Walking down the stairs at Scarab, the smell of incense leads the way. On first sight, the bewildered jet-lagged travellers may have to pinch themselves to ensure they are not in tribal heartland of Asia or Africa. Scarab, is a large store that lines every conceivable space with alternative, cultural and miscellaneous goods. The stock includes dresses, bags, jewellery, gems, pipes, statues and icons, most with African and South East Asian themes."

"Walking into Scarab is like walking into another world because the atmosphere is really warm and relaxing and the music is great. also, Scarab staff make you feel welcome and comfortable without harassing you.

Be prepared to spend quite a long time browsing. There are so many exotic items from all over the world and the shop is so large and atmospheric I didn't want to leave!
It's also reasonably priced. You can buy anything from a stick of incense to a giant Buddha and their range of jewellery is amazing!"

Beautiful and exotic jewellery and crafts from all over. Always worth a browse when strolling through Byron. And there's a great carnelian necklace there that has my name on it... someday!
